The area extends to the south from Catalonia along the Mediterranean. 466 km of coasts bathed by the Mediterranean and 23.500 km2 of surface of the Valencian Community accomodate immense beaches, large sierras and various natural spaces which offer a broad range of possibilities to the tourist who comes to discover this area.

With its 10.736 km2, its 263 communes and a population of 2.154.322 inhabitants, the province of Valence is extended from the three provinces which, with Castellon in north and Alicante in the south, integrate the old kingdom of Valence. Its great fine sand beaches (100 km of coasts) and the spectacle of its ad infinitum deployed orange groves are worth a world fame to him. It offers two definitely different landscapes: the littoral and the mountain. The first shelters a very strong density of population accentuated by the balneal concentrations of the summer. The alluvial grounds are there particularly fertile, favourable with the irrigable cultures which spread out their mosaic of greenery throughout the year. The back-country, on the other hand, is practically ignored. The mountainous arc of the Valencian sierras, crossed here and there by wild throats composes a landscape of vast pine forests which hide prehistoric caves containing of abundant cave paintings.

Principal festivals:

Las Fallas Each year, Valence is in festival during the week which precedes on March 19, Fête of the Joseph Saint. Some 400 giant and caricatural sculptures transitory masterpieces illustrating of the scenes of the political and social life will be sacrificed there as a l honnor of the owner of the carpenters in impressive and thundering fire d´artifice the last day on all the places of the capital. Bullfights take place on these same dates in the majority of the villages of the area.

Moors and Christians (Moros y Cristianos) Several localities of the Valencian area celebrate this ritual festival. The combat of the “Moros y Cristianos” commemorates with a merry spirit the fight between Christians and Moslems during the reconquest. Dressed up processions, balls and sham fights of streets are prolonged several days lasting for the greatest joy of the population. (between April and September)

Fires of the Saint Jean in Alicante. On June 24, day of the Saint and the summer solstice, the inhabitants proceed to firing of the satirical mannequins which ravelled beforehand in the city. (between the 20 and on June 29)

Mystery d´Elche One celebrates each year with the basilica Sainte Marie d' Elche, locality famous for its splendid palm plantation, this mystery of medieval origin whose topic is l´Ascension of the Virgin. (11 at August 15)

Bullfights : the season of the bullfights in Spain begins in March with Feria de Castellon, (Festival of the Madeleine) followed by Fallas de Valence. It is prolonged in July with “San Jaime” in Alicante and continues until October.

Weather in the Valencia area : The area of Valence has a Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summers and soft winters. Spring and the autumn are the periods when it rains more. These rains are sometimes torrential. It can snow in certain areas of the interior. Weather and temperature are pleasant all year long, with an average not going down below 15 ºC, except for the mountainous regions, where the thermometer can go down below 0 ºC.

The town of Oliva offers a broad range of tourist activities, during its stay in Oliva Spain, the tourist will benefit from the beach or the mountain as well.

The town of Gandia particularly celebrates Fallas (of the 15 at March 19) and the Holy Week, (in March or April).
