Galicia is located in the North-West of Spain,
bordering with Portugal, Castille Leon and Asturies; since the Middle
Ages, it is the terminus of the road of the European pélerinage:
the way of Saint Jacques de Compostelle.
La Galicia and his two thousand
years of history look towards the Atlantic Ocean and the Bay of Biscay.
The visit of these grounds of the North-West of Spain will make it possible
to live a singular adventure, characterized by traditions, bulky landscapes
and single cities in their genre.La Galicia neutralizes the borders
between the ground and the sea. With regard to the sea, it is absolutely
necessary to quote Fisterra (Finisterre), finish it terrae Romans who
located the end of their known world at it. In Galicia, the ground and
the sea do only one. Both are based throughout 1300 kilometers of littoral,
772 beaches and five large rias (deep gulfs) which one often considers
as an allegory of the hand of the Creator to trace the capricious littoral
which defines, now, a part of this country. Galicia is also the country
of the thousand rivers and rivers. Water of the majority of these rivers
runs on the slopes of the sierras of OS Ancares, O Courel and Peña
Trevinca (of which the height often exceeds 1800 meters of altitude).
Worthy Minho crosses the Galicia of the North-East to south-west before
being thrown quietly in the Atlantic, at the border between Spain and
Portugal. The river beds are as varied as the landscape: let us mention
especially impressive Cañons of Sil (the principal affluent of
Minho, perfectly navigable for the catamarans) and Ribeira Sacra, a
viticultural area characterized by its dénivellations.En Galicia,
6 natural parks and spaces are counted whose famous Maritime National
park of the Atlantic Islands, extending on nearly 8.000 hectares.Les
charms from Galicia are accentuated by its geographical diversity, allowing
a large variety of approaches. Variety of the interior landscapes, with
its many ranges of greens, the innumerable rivers, the splendid valleys
and the escarpées mountains, its coasts escarpées with
the littoral cut out in deep and sinuous estuaries, its beaches... Any
voyage in Galicia should be obligatorily supplemented by the gastronomy.
One will be able to taste in the Galician restaurants and bars more
fish quatrevingts varieties of sea and more than one fish half-dozen
of river, as well as around fifty of seafood different, fifteen meats
(more if account of game is held), a dozen and half vegetables, as well
as a vast cheese range, particularly tasty fruits and desserts. The
wines with appellation contrôlée will accompany all the
products perfectly quote above. The varieties Ribeiro, Rias Baixas,
Valdeorras, Monterrei and Ribeira Sacra dominate this vast range of
excellent crus. One should not miss its many festivals: the festival
of the wine of Albarino with Cambados and the festival Viking in Catoira,
in August, or the "Rapa das Bestas" in Estrada, celebrates
wild horse which freely traverses the mountains of the Galicia and which
takes place in July. A very vast range of tourist offers in connection
with the culture, nature, the balneal one, the gastronomy and the richness
of its monumental cities.
