The Basque Country is located in the Eastern part of the Cantabric Cordillera. The Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenees are used as background in a landscape which includes all the tone of the green, a cut out escarpée coast of estuaries and hills of beeches and oaks.

A surface of 7 261 km², of which 53,3% correspond to wooded areas and more than 18 natural enclaves of a great ecological value, make of this territory a green paradise, wet and full with life. Its 197 km of coast accomodate the travellers who can benefit from the beach and to practise many water sports particularly well thanks to the infrastructures adaptées. The Basque Country is a gastronomical Eldorado where the best restaurants are next with the bars with typed and cider-houses in a convivial environment. San Sebastian is the city with the greatest density of Michelin stars to the square meter of the world. An excellent traditional cuisine, based on ingredients of the first quality and a cuisine of author renovated whose reputation exceeds our borders; in a word a choice as varied as delicious. The wines of the "Rioja alavesa" can compete with the best wines of the world, in spite of the surface relatively little extended of the area. The red wines can be "crianza", "reserva" or "gran reserva" according to the time spent out of barrels of oak. The indigenous drink is Txakoli, wine white, young, fresh and fruity which starts to be known out of Euskadi. And we cannot obviously forget the cider, which you can taste in the cider-houses.

Principal festivals:

Tamborrada de San Sebastian to celebrate his holy protector, Donastia (Holy Sebastien) made ravel in the streets of the old city the few sixty companies, composed each one of a hundred of members who compete of noisy dexterity to make sound as it is appropriate drums and large cases. The uniforms carried are those of the war of Independence against the Napoleonean invasion. (January 19-20)
